Seow Lun Hoo
Chairman of Newfields Group, CEO of Newfields Advisors
Mr Seow founded Newfields Advisors in 2001 with a vision of providing innovative and independent advisory services to clients from different industries and business sectors. As the Chairman of Newfields Group, Mr Seow has headlined some of the biggest corporate deals in Malaysia as they shifted the country’s M&A landscape. In 2006, he provided financial advice for the privatisation of Malakoff Bhd, and when IJM Corporation Berhad merged with Road Builders Bhd. Four years later, he was instrumental in Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd’s acquisition of 33% of U Mobile Sdn Bhd. Other prominent deals include the acquisition and privatisation of Magnum Corporation Berhad, and the restructuring of KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Berhad and QSR Brands Bhd. His extensive experience in the financial realm saw him serving for 28 years at Hong Leong Credit Bhd, including as the President and CEO. Hong Leong Credit Bhd is presently known as Hong Leong Financial Group Berhad, the financial services and property arm of the Hong Leong Group Malaysia. Mr Seow has a wealth of experience in operation and strategic management, as well as corporate finance transactions, with a specialisation in M&A deal generation, corporate restructuring and reorganisation, and debt and equity capital market transactions.
Mr Seow is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK, and a licensed Capital Markets Services Representative in Malaysia.
Seow Voon Ping
Group Managing Director of Newfields Group
Together with his father, Voon Ping was a founder of Newfields Land which has become a prominent developer of commercial and residential real estate in and around Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. He is passionate about building sustainable communities in each of the projects being built, with particular emphasis on quality and creation of urban living spaces. This is illustrated by the recent revival and completion of Maisson in Ara Damansara, which has been a springboard for the Newfields Land to build on its success.
Voon Ping also oversees the direct investments of the Newfields Group. He believes in investing with growing trends and companies which places focus on high standards of management and long run growth. Current investments include those in financial technology, biotechnology, and US-based domestic manufacturing. Newfields Group is an equity partner with the UOB Group and jointly owned UOB Asset Management and Unit Trust business.
Mr Seow holds a Bachelor of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Tan Sri Dato Dr Yahya Bin Awang
Chairman of Newfields Advisors
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang obtained his basic Medical Degree from Monash University, Melbourne in 1974.
He became a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow in 1980.
Moving to London in 1981, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang worked as a Surgical Registrar in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Royal Brompton Hospital before returning to Malaysia to take up the role of Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the General Hospital. From 1992 until 2004, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang held the position of Head and Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the National Heart Institute of Malaysia. From 1998 to 2002, he was also the Medical Director of the Institute.
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang’s many professional achievements include pioneering the establishment of The National Heart Institute of Malaysia in 1992 and performing the first Heart Transplant in Malaysia in 1997. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang is the author of many scholarly and professional articles and has made numerous presentations to professional audiences.
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Yahya Awang has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital since March 2003. He was a council member of the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia. He is also Chairman of the Malaysian Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Managing Director of Newfields Advisors
Prior to joining Newfields, Eugene was attached to the RHB Banking Group for more than 16 years. He was an Associate Director in the Corporate Finance Department of OSK Investment Bank Berhad (now known as RHB Investment Bank Berhad) (RHBIB) where he spent more than nine (9) years specializing in initial public offerings (IPOs), capital raising exercises, corporate debt restructurings, company valuations and independent advisory works.
He was then based in Cambodia for three years as the CEO of RHB OSK Indochina Securities Limited before returning to Malaysia in 2014 to serve as a Director and Team Head in the Group Client Coverage, Private Sector Department of RHBIB.
Prior to joining OSK Investment Bank Berhad in 2002, he was attached with one of the big four (4) global accounting firms at the time, where he spent five (5) years specializing in corporate debt restructurings, company valuations and asset and debt recovery and independent advisory works.
Eugene graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business, United Kingdom. He is also a licensed Capital Markets Services Representative in Malaysia.
Lee Kit Fai
Executive Director of Newfields Advisors
Prior to joining Newfields, Mr Lee was attached to Ernst & Young Malaysia in Assurance, and worked as a corporate finance advisor in a Universal Broker. During his tenure as an auditor, he provided not only audit services but advice on business valuation and restructuring, as well as matters related to tax, corporate finance, and due diligence.
During his time with Newfields, he was involved in various corporate exercises, with a focus on Mergers & Acquisition, fundraising, and group restructuring. Notable transactions under his portfolio include restructurings of the IJM and Multi-Purpose Holdings Bhd Groups, fundraising exercises through equity and bond issuances for IJM Group, West Coast Expressway Sdn Bhd, and Aquasar Capital Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of the State Financial Secretary of Sarawak). Mr Lee also played a key role in the privatisation of IJM Land Bhd and Mamee-Double Decker (M) Bhd.
Mr Lee is a licensed Capital Markets Services Representative in Malaysia, and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Malaysia and Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
